Make the site usable by everyone and compliant with the EAA
A fixed price audit against WCAG 2.1 AA, then the fixes, with a statement you can publish
The European Accessibility Act has applied since 28 June 2025 and 2026 is the first full year it is actively supervised. If you sell online to EU customers and you are not a microenterprise, this is law, not a nice to have. It is also, done early, a two week job rather than a crisis.
Short answer
Does this actually apply to me?
It applies to businesses providing covered digital services to EU consumers, e commerce among them. There is an exemption for microenterprises, meaning fewer than 10 people and under 2 million euro annual turnover. If you are under both thresholds the law does not force you, and I will tell you that rather than sell you an audit.
What usually fails, and why it matters
Light grey text on white, which fails contrast and is unreadable in sunlight for everyone.
Nothing works with a keyboard, so a person who cannot use a mouse cannot buy from you.
Buttons that are icons with no label, read out by a screen reader as "button".
Images with no alternative text, which also means Google cannot read them.
A checkout that cannot be completed without seeing the screen.
Form errors shown only as red colour, invisible to anyone who cannot distinguish it.
What the audit and the fixes cover
Automated plus manual testing
Scanners catch about a third of real problems. The rest is a person going through the site with a keyboard and a screen reader, which is the part most cheap audits skip.
WCAG 2.1 AA, the standard the law names
EN 301 549 incorporates WCAG 2.1 Level AA in full, and that is what enforcement checks against. Each finding cites the specific criterion it breaks.
Prioritised by user impact
Findings sorted by who is actually blocked, not by how many warnings a tool printed. A checkout nobody can complete outranks forty decorative images.
The fixes, not just the list
Contrast, focus states, labels, alternative text, headings, form errors and keyboard order implemented in the code, then retested against the same criteria.
An accessibility statement
The public statement the law expects, written from what the site actually does, including what is not yet conformant and when it will be.

The European Accessibility Act sets common accessibility requirements for a list of products and services sold to EU consumers, including e commerce, banking, transport and telecoms. It has been enforceable since 28 June 2025.
The technical standard behind it in Europe is EN 301 549, which incorporates WCAG 2.1 Level AA in full. In practice, conformance with WCAG 2.1 AA is what an auditor checks.
Microenterprises providing services, under 10 employees and under 2 million euro turnover, are exempt from the service obligations. Everyone else selling online to EU consumers is in scope.
Enforcement is national. Each member state names an authority, a complaints route and its own penalties, which is why the published maximums differ so much between countries.

| Specialist agency, SMB site | €1,500 to €4,500 | full audit and report, fixes usually quoted separately |
| Enterprise consultancy | €8,000 and up | audit, VPAT, training, ongoing programme |
| This page, audit | €450 | automated plus manual pass, up to 10 templates, criterion by criterion |

The gap is not quality, it is that there is no agency in the middle. The manual pass is the part that matters and it is included at every tier here.
Do it now or do it later
- Built in from the start, accessibility adds close to nothing to a project. It is contrast, labels and focus states, decided once.
- Retrofitted calmly, it is a two to three week job on a normal site.
- Retrofitted after a complaint, with a deadline from an authority, it is the same work at emergency speed while somebody senior watches.
- If a rebuild is on the table anyway, do both at once: WordPress to Next.js migration.
How to get an exact price
Send the site address, roughly how many distinct page templates it has, and whether you sell online. The form is three fields, or Viber on 087 727 5750. Within 24 hours you get a price, a date, and first the honest answer to whether the law applies to you at all.
