What a WordPress to Next.js migration costs in 2026

The same migration is quoted very differently depending on who is holding the pen. In September 2026 the market looks like this: a freelancer takes 3,000 to 12,000 dollars, a boutique studio 8,000 to 25,000, and a full service agency 20,000 to 80,000 and up. Full SEO parity work is often quoted separately, adding another 1,500 to 4,000.

My tiers start at 2,500 euro with the SEO parity work included rather than sold as an extra. The reason is structural: there is no agency between you and the person writing the code. It is not a discount and there is no cheaper version where corners come off, because the corners are where rankings live.

  • A migration that does not preserve URLs is not cheaper, it is a rebuild plus a traffic loss.
  • Ask any quote to name the redirect map and the parity check explicitly. If they are missing from the scope, they are missing from the work.

When you should not migrate

If your WordPress site is fast, maintained and your team publishes several times a week through the editor, migrating for fashion is a bad trade. Spend the money on content instead.

If three or more of these are true, the arithmetic usually works: the site takes over three seconds on a phone, the yearly plugin and maintenance bill is over 800 euro, Core Web Vitals fail, content changes a few times a year, and you have been told a rebuild is needed anyway.

How long does it take?
Two to three weeks for a site up to 25 pages, four to six weeks up to 150 pages. Larger or shop migrations are staged and scoped after a call. The date goes in the contract and the clock starts when I have access and content.
Can I keep the WordPress editor?
Yes. WordPress can run headless: you keep the editor and the workflow your team knows, and Next.js renders the front end through the REST API. You get the familiar admin and a fast site, at the cost of keeping two systems alive.
What happens to my plugins?
Contact forms, SEO settings, galleries, sliders and caching are rebuilt as part of the site, not reinstalled. Plugins that connect to an external service, like a courier or a CRM, are reconnected through that service API. The plugin bill stops.
Why is your price so much lower than an agency?
Because there is no agency. No account manager, no office, no sales commission, no project manager billing hours for status meetings. I am one developer in Sofia who writes the code and answers the phone. That is the advantage and also the limit: I take one migration at a time.
Who owns the result?
You do, from the day you pay. Code in your repository, domain in your name, hosting and analytics accounts in your name. There is no fee to leave and no vendor lock, which is the whole point of leaving a rented platform.
What does it cost to run afterwards?
A small site runs on Vercel free tier and costs you the domain, about 15 to 30 euro a year. A busy site with a database is a few euro a month. There is no premium plugin renewal and no mandatory retainer.
Can you work with a company outside Bulgaria?
Yes, and most migrations are. Sofia is one hour ahead of Berlin and seven ahead of New York, so there is a real overlap with a Western working day. Invoicing is a normal EU invoice with reverse charge between VAT registered businesses.
What do you need from me to start?
Admin access to WordPress, access to the domain DNS, a list of anything that must keep working, and a person who can answer questions within a day. That is it.
